After 27 1/2 years with ATF, Special Agent in Charge Eric Harden retired December 31, 2017. SAC Harden began his ATF career in 1990, as a Special Agent in Los Angeles, CA, focusing on firearms and narcotics trafficking and criminal street gangs. Growing up in south and east LA, SAC Harden made a choice to dedicate his life and career to quelling the gang violence that affected his friends, family and community. The violence he witnessed daily shaped his life. SAC Harden made the decision to always defend the weak and look out for the innocent who were intimidated and bullied. He was heavily recruited as a running back out of high school by most Ivy League colleges, West Point, and the Air Force Academy. He chose to attend Stanford. SAC Harden interviewed with the CIA on Stanford campus his junior year and was offered a job, which he turned down. He instead gravitated towards law enforcement where he felt he would make more of a difference. As he grew through the ATF ranks, he made major impacts along the way. Under his leadership, his group worked some of Los Angeles Field Division’s most notorious investigations.
