Overview
Cure Violence Global is rated 9th among the 500 best NGOs in the world and first among organizations devoted to reducing violence. CVG’s mission is to help cities and communities reduce violence by treating it as a behavior that spreads like a contagious disease, and successfully prevented using public health methods.
Cure Violence Global offers the only data-driven, third-party tested approach of its kind. CVG leads partners in over 100 communities across 15 U.S. cities with a network of over 360 trained frontline outreach workers and violence interrupters. These individuals are chosen based on their credibility and ability to influence the highest risk individuals and their families from a point of trust. CVG works with city leaders, community partners, and most critically, frontline community workers to adapt and implement the epidemic control approach to the local situation. Through methodically identifying and reaching the most at-risk individuals for committing violence, treating them, and changing the community’s social norms around violence, CVG’s sites consistently reduce rates of violence and shootings by 40-70%.

Additional Context on Racial Justice Expertise.
Our staff is made up mostly of people of color who are from communities affected by violence. Most have been personally affected by violence and many have had deep expereince with police and racial bias, and many have been formerly incarcerated. As an example, one of our senior staff was imprisoned for 19 years for a crime he did not commit, but that police set him up for because he was young, black, and from the “wrong” community.
